Research Associate


This position is laboratory-based and requires strong experimental skills with a background in cell biology, primary neuronal cultures and experience in quantitative assay development. Under supervision, the candidate will assist in duties including, but not limited to:  cell culture maintenance, compound screening, biochemical assays, immunocytochemistry, and analysis using state of the art high-content imaging.  Strong communication skills are required including the ability to analyze and report on the results. The candidate will be expected to function efficiently and cooperatively within a team and maintain accurate and clear project records. The ideal candidate will be creative, energetic and motivated. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in neuroscience, biology, or related field.  Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Culture and maintenance of both cell lines and primary cells, including rodent primary neurons and iPSC-derived neurons
  • Stable cell line generation
  • Harvesting and maintaining embryonic rodent primary neurons to develop secondary assays
  • Assessing compound efficacy via immunocytochemical, biochemical and molecular biology techniques, such as immunostaining, immunoblotting, and immunoprecipitation.
  • Interacting and collaborating with biology and chemistry team members to improve the compound properties and activities
  • Analyzing experimental data, addressing methodological problems in experimental protocols and results, and presenting data
  • Documenting, compiling, and assisting in interpretation of experimental data. Presenting data to supervisor in oral and written reports
  • Managing a database or spreadsheets to compile and present results in a meaningful manner
  • Consulting scientific literature as needed

Experience and skills required:

  • A Bachelor’s (+5 years experience) or Master’s (+3 years experience) degree in neuroscience, cell biology or related discipline
  • Proficiency in basic lab techniques and principles of cell biology, biochemistry and neurobiology preferred
  • Proficiency in rodent embryonic brain dissection and harvesting primary neurons techniques is highly desirable
  • Experience in assay development
  • Experience in a biotech/pharma setting highly preferred
  • Knowledge of relevant scientific databases preferred

Scientist



We are seeking an exceptional Scientist to expand our drug discovery and development capabilities.

The successful candidate should be highly motivated, flexible and enjoy working in a team-based environment with a strong interest in contributing to the development of new therapies for the pharmacological treatment of neurodegenerative disease.

The ideal candidate should have a broad scientific skill set and be able to contribute and manage multiple projects required for the selection of a clinical drug candidate.  This work will entail the selection and conduct of appropriate in vitro studies using both neuronal cell cultures and animal models of neurodegenerative disease.

The candidate will be creative, energetic, results oriented, and highly motivated to develop novel neurodegenerative therapies. This position will have strong growth potential and the successful candidate will gain exposure to the breadth of activities required as the company develops. They will be expected to function independently, yet also act cooperatively within a team environment, helping to generate, analyze and concisely communicate results. Candidates should have a Ph.D., M.D. or Ph.D./M.D. with demonstrated experience in neurobiology and/or drug discovery. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • The development, and optimization of both low and high throughput screening assays, to predict clinical effectiveness
  • The generation and maintenance of established and primary rodent neuronal cultures and human iPSC derived neurons
  • The selection, design and development of in vivo neurodegenerative disease models
  • Analyzing experimental data, addressing methodological problems in experimental protocols and results, and presenting data
  • Interacting and collaborating with biology and chemistry team members to optimize the properties of lead compound series
  • Documenting, compiling, and assisting in the interpretation of experimental data. Presenting data to leadership in oral and written reports
  • Managing a database and spreadsheets to compile and present results in a meaningful manner
  • Consulting with the scientific community and literature as needed
  • EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • A Ph.D. with 3+ years experience in neurobiology or related discipline
    • Proven track record in either an academic and/or pharmaceutical drug environment
  • Strong command in neurobiology and related lab techniques, including in vitro and/or in vivo experience, with company drug discovery and development experience a strong plus
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written) and analytical skills to report on results and propose new scientific directions based on new results
  • Excellent ability to design and conduct in vitro and in vivo experiments
  • Experience in HTS assay development and the drug discovery and development a plus
  • Knowledge of relevant scientific databases
