We are hiring exceptional Ph.D. Scientists to expand our exciting new Alzheimer’s Disease drug discovery and development programs.

The successful candidate will be creative, energetic, results oriented, enjoy working in a team-based fun environment, and be highly motivated to the discovery of new therapies for the treatment of Alzheimer’s, ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases.

The ideal candidate should have a broad scientific skill set and be able to contribute to multiple projects required for the selection of a clinical drug candidate. This work will entail the design and conduct of appropriate in vitro and in vivo studies using neuronal cell cultures and animal models of neurodegenerative disease.

This position will have excellent growth potential and the successful candidate will gain exposure to the breadth of activities required to develop first in class therapeutics, from an accomplished industry experienced leadership team. The candidate will be expected to function independently, yet act collaboratively within a team environment, helping to generate, analyze and concisely communicate results and future plans. Candidates should have a Ph.D. with demonstrated experience in neurobiology and/or drug discovery. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience with very attractive employee benefits.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and characterize mammalian cellular models of tau biology using Aquinnah’s innovative stress granule platform.

  • Investigate mechanism of action studies for tau inhibitors and develop in vitro pharmacodynamic biomarkers.

  • Develop and characterize translational biomarkers from cellular assays to Alzheimer’s disease mouse models; for selection of drug development candidates.

  • Design and analysis of well controlled experiments, followed by group presentation of experimental results, interpretation and conclusions, and future experimental design for program advancement.

  • Written reports of salient experimental results.

  • Supervision of research associates and assistance to trouble shoot methodological problems in experimental protocols.

  • Contribute to strategic discussions on drug discovery and development projects for both Alzheimer’s, ALS and other neurodegeneration programs.

  • Presentation of program status and progress to the leadership team on a regular basis.

Experience and skills required:

  • A Ph.D. (+2-10 years’ experience) in neurobiology with experience in Alzheimer’s disease research. Candidates with tau research experience are preferred.

  • Proven track record of accomplishment in an academic university, pharmaceutical or biotech company.

  • Knowledge and experience in neurodegenerative diseases; preferably in stress granule biology, RNA binding proteins, and proteostasis.

  • A strong background in cell biology and molecular biology, including but limited to primary and iPS neurons, cellular models of tau biology, biomarker identification, validation and assay development.

  • Excellent experimental design and execution, using in vitro and/or in vivo models.

  • HTS assay development, assay validation and drug discovery R&D, an added plus.

  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and analytical skills to report on results and propose new scientific directions.

  • Develop multiple stable cell lines expressing various transgenes.

  • Develop and optimize high content imaging assays to support high throughput screening.

  • Cell culture and the maintenance of multiple mammalian cell lines.

  • Assessment of compound efficacy via immunocytochemical, biochemical and molecular biology techniques, such as immunostaining, immunoblotting, and immunoprecipitation.

  • Analysis of experimental data, addressing methodological problems in experimental protocols and results, presenting data and results.

  • Documentation, compilation, and assistance in interpretation of experimental data.

  • Presentation of data to supervisor in oral and written reports, and group meetings.

  • Management of databases or spreadsheets to compile and present results in a meaningful manner

  • Consulting scientific literature as needed

Experience and skills required:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in neuroscience, cell biology or related discipline with 5-10 years of experience in a research laboratory setting.

  • Strong proficiency in basic lab techniques, especially in tissue culture operations.

    • Experience in stable cell line development preferred.

  • Proficiency in the principles of cell biology, biochemistry and neurobiology.

  • Experience in cell based assay development and validation preferred.

    • High content cell imaging is an added plus
